8/8/8 Rest

8/8/8 Rest is an 8-hour performance running from 9pm until 5am, based on the theme of rest. The work moved through four non-traditional performance spaces in the foyers of the Arts Centre. Each of the spaces had unique design features, which we responded to with different treatments.

The work spanned disparately themed zones including a business-style conference, dream-like reflective foyer, insomniac nightclub and a dazzling slow sunrise and return to the world. In the main foyer space, lights were carefully focused to make use of the reflective surfaces of the ceilings and walls to elicit a “jewelled cave” while avoiding glare for the audience. Our approach to programming featured slowly shifting patterns of brightness and colour, often barely perceptble, that lead to distinctive shifts in attention and focus across the marathon duration of the work.
